Portion of Loop 303 project is 30 percent complete
Work on the six-mile phase of the Loop 303 improvement project began just eight months ago and already crews have moved an amazing 1.5 million cubic yards of dirt!
But, they’ve done a lot more than that and next week we’ll show you a video chronicling the progress so far – this portion of the project (between Peoria Avenue and Mountain View Boulevard in Surprise) is about 30 percent complete and on schedule!
For today, have a look at the slideshow above featuring photos of construction and feel free to take our quick online survey about the project.

Twitter said this is an "improvement project." All I see is the destruction of arable land, and a future of respiratory illness, obesity, vacant houses, and traffic jams. If that's what is meant by improvements, then congratulations on a job well done!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see so much progress. I drive through the future L-303 and I-10 interchange daily and am excited to be able to watch such a massive project come together. One question, I noticed that ADOT has been "watering" much of the soil around the future interchange with a temporary sprinkler system that seems to be running non-stop for weeks. What is the purpose of this? Dust control? Making the ground easier to dig through? Thanks, and keep the excellent 303 updates coming!
ReplyDeleteHi Alan,
Delete“Watering” the dirt on a construction site might seem a little odd, but it does serve a purpose!
We blogged about it a few months ago and you’re right … wetting the soil helps eliminate dust pollution and makes the ground much easier to dig through. Watering is also beneficial when crews need transport and compact the soil.
For more on the subject, take a look at the
blog post and video from October.
Glad you’re enjoying the updates and thanks for reading!
Thanks!
